This Letter introduces a new type of magnetic susceptibility effect in solids. The effect is manifested by a dependence of the free energy of certain systems on the orientation of a magnetic field. In contrast to the well-known single-ion anisotropy effects, this property emerges in systems that contain a large number of ions. First, we prove that the existence of a large number of interacting centers (ions) is a necessary condition for the appearance of the new phenomenon. Second, we give an explicit expression for the free energy of a simple system which exhibits this new effect. Finally, we speculate about the existence of a similar effect in fluids.Thursday, January 20, 2009 Inspiration for February Though the colder weather is creeping in, I am still amped up for Valentine's Day. It was only a couple of days ago that I made this super cute Valentine's Card. I kept it simple, though, to help me get my creative juices flowing. I have a date set to make my girls some Valentine's Cards, but it's a few days off, so I decided to keep it clean and use some fun, bright paper for them. There is a technique that I've heard about in stamping circles, but I've never tried. It's called "shading." I looked it up online, and there are so many different tutorials about it. I also found this "book" about shaded techniques. Here's a photo of a few of the many ways you can shade! And here's a photo of a little card I made using a heart image that I found in my stash. I stamped the heart in orange, then I used this Sizzix die and a wonderful stencil from the American Crafts Big Kick Stamp Set to cut it out. I stamped the sentiment in orange using Versamark ink. I really like the effect that I got with the shaded technique, but I'm not sure I have the patience to do it! This is why I love to scrap, because I can be creative and still get my own work done! I'm off to see how you've been doing!Cross-cultural adaptation of the EORTC QLQ-C30 and QLQ be359ba680
